01 / Why this, here

The harbor runs on weather, and your paperwork does not.

The studio sits in San Diego, about seventy five minutes south of the Harbor, and we make that drive often. Boat service yards, charter and fishing operators, the restaurants in the Lantern District and the brokerages up by Monarch Beach all keep a calendar that the calendar does not control. Wind moves it, tides move it, and a customer changes his mind on Thursday.

So the office absorbs the change. A charter cancels and somebody rebooks six parties by phone. A repair estimate depends on what is found once the boat is out of the water, so the quote gets rebuilt twice and the customer hears the third number. Parts arrive late and nobody tells the owner until he calls. Deposits, waivers and slip paperwork live in a filing cabinet and a shared drive at the same time, which means they live nowhere.

The audit follows one job through that whole loop: inquiry, quote, change order, invoice. We count how many times a person retypes something that already existed, put hours against each one, and price what a fix would cost to build. Some of it earns its money back in a season. Some of it should be left alone, and the document names which is which.

02 / What you get

One document, and a decision you can make.

  • A walkthrough of how your business actually runs today, written down where anyone can read it.
  • Three to five places AI or software would pay for itself, ranked, each with the hours or dollars attached.
  • What each fix would cost to build, so you can stop at the document if the numbers do not work.
  • The places we tell you not to bother. Some work is cheaper left alone.
  • A 90-day order of operations, first thing first.
  • A live walkthrough of the findings, with your questions answered in plain English.
03 / What this looks like

Three shapes this takes in Dana Point. These are composites, not named clients.

A boat service yard. Estimates start rough and change once the hull is out and the real condition is visible, so the office builds the quote from scratch each time. The audit times that loop across a month of jobs and prices a quoting tool that carries the earlier version forward instead of starting over.

A charter and sportfishing operator. Weather moves half the calendar in season, and rebooking happens by phone, one guest at a time. We count the cancellations, count the calls behind them, and look at whether an automatic rebooking message would hold up with the kind of guests who book a boat.

A restaurant in the Lantern District. Reservations, catering inquiries and vendor orders sit in three different places, and the owner is the only person who sees all three. The audit maps the handoffs and usually finds two that the booking system you already pay for could carry on its own.

04 / Honest scope

What we will and will not take on.

The businesses we work with have real operations behind them, usually five to fifty people, and an owner who still knows how a job moves from the first call to the final invoice. We ask for a few hours with the people doing that work, on the dock or in the office.

A one or two person operation, a single broker, a solo captain, does not need us yet. ChatGPT Plus, a scheduler and a good template will cover more than most people expect at that size, and we say so out loud instead of selling an audit.

Price is $1,500, fixed, with the drive included. Nobody is obligated to build anything afterward, and if a build makes sense, larger projects run $6,000 to $15,000. You keep the document either way.

This page was drafted from a structured outline and hand-reviewed before launch. The work itself is custom, owner-operated, never templated.
